The internet is a big place. We are told every day by multiple sources that we need to protect our wallets, our identities, and our children from the horrors that wait for us within those glowing screens. The UK Safer Internet Centre runs ‘Safer Internet Day’ every February to help do just that. Busydays have always worked really hard to ensure everything we do has safety as our first priority.
When we had bouncy castles we ensured went above and beyond the standards expected, and with our face painting we have developed policies and practices that protect both our artists and our clients. We choose safety over profit every time, often turning down products and trends we feel do not meet our high standards. (That is why we do not offer neon paints for example!) It is difficult when you work in an industry that is unregulated. Yes, you did read that correctly, the face painting industry is completely unregulated in the UK. In reality anyone can set themselves up as a face painter and get invited to paint children in their own homes, with any type of paint and supplies and with no knowledge of health and safety. That is why before we even decided on our business name, we decided to invite West Sussex Trading Standards to help us set up the foundations of our policies and procedures, including our Child Protection Policy; and why we ensure that we only work with artists who have been enhanced CRB (now DBS) checked by the police.
With such a strong foundation in place, we wanted to ensure our online service was as robust. That is why we chose PayPal as our payment handler. Every transaction is encrypted and monitored by PayPal 24/7 to prevent fraud, email phishing and identity theft. They also offer excellent buyer protection. Your memory protects your login information and lets you pay without exposing your card details.
If you would like to know more about staying safe online why not give the UK Safer Internet Centre website a quick look? They even have a fun quiz about how consent works online! https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2019/safer-internet-day-2019-quiz
